History Fair 2015 Topic Ideas

Looking forward to another great year of History Fair!

Leadership & Legacy is the theme this year.  Look over the handout in class and on the Chicago History Fair link below for topic ideas.  Read about them briefly and try to pick two or three.

History Fair Topic Selection

1)  First, freshen up on your primary and secondary sources by retaking the quiz.  Didn't get a good score?  Take it again.

2)  Then, pick your topic, with my approval, and fill out the blue topic sheet (with the keys).

History Fair Topic Selection!

  1. Look over your blue History Fair & You sheet if you need to.
  2. Still looking for a topic?  Go to Edmodo to check my comments.  Also look over the printed out list of topics (see me) or the digital lists are here.
  3. Once your topic has been approved by me, fill out the blue History Topic Sheet (with the keys).http://static.freepik.com/free-photo/key-clip-art_414329.jpg
  4. Read, read, read about your topic.  At least ten minutes in class and more outside of class.
  5. Finally, write a paragraph about your topic.  You can either hand write it on paper or type it into Edmodo.    The paragraph is pass/fail.  The paragraph must:
·       be at least five sentences
·       have topic date(s)
·       underline the topic
·       describe topic clearly
·       explain why it’s a turning point
or it will be a zero.

You will have until 11/27 to complete the Topic Sheet and until 11/30 to compete the paragraph.  Any redos by these dates will receive full credit.  After that they’ll be late.

Once you have your topic we’re going to put it into hibernation until Jan/Feb 2013.

The theme is year is Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events.  While I'm not too concerned at this point about you fitting your topic into this theme, it's a good idea to keep this in mind.

Read the pages and choose three topics that look interesting.  If you can’t find much information on the topic you probably can’t do it.

History Fair Topic Ideas

History Fair topic ideas can be difficult to develop and you shouldn't rush into it.  Here are some sites to help you out.

Start here, at Chicago Metro History Fair.  It's a lot of text but has some very valuable information.  There's also a list of topics on their site here: http://www.chicagohistoryfair.org/history-fair/history-fair-a-nhd-theme/nhd-suggested-topics.html

Next, try the NHD site.  Scroll down to "Choosing a topic".

The theme is year is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.  While I'm not too concerned at this point about you fitting your topic into this theme, here are some examples (opens up a pdf).

Ms. Hawes also has some good info up at her blog.
And the Senn HS site has a lot of great PowerPoints, links and resources.
