2. Find your sources and make you bibliography.  See the pink rubric from class and look into the info below.

Doing Research/Finding Sources
Secondary Sources

-->Here's a great place to start (hosted by the high school)

Primary Sources – What are they?  How do you find them?  What do you do with them? http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/rusa/sections/history/resources/pubs/usingprimarysources/index.cfm
Library of Congress – Digital Collectionhttp://www.loc.gov/index.html#
National Archives (the building in DC where the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and millions of other records are stored) http://www.archives.gov/research/
University of Chicago – Special Collectionshttp://www.lib.uchicago.edu/e/scrc/
The Encyclopedia of Chicago – Electronic Version(includes primary sources from the Chicago History Museum Collection) http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/

Help with Annotated Bibliographies (like a Works Cited page)

Once you've found your sources and are ready for your bibliography, use this site:  http://www.bibme.org.

Use MLA format:
Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Medium of Publication.
Examples here (use the left for navigation).

Then annotate the sources with a brief one-sentence summary.  Examples are here.

Submitting Your Topic and Annotated Bibliography

You can submit hard copies or share them with me on google docs.  When turning these in,  don't forget to include your full name and block in the document title.

Here's the bibliography template.

Use the example on the back of the pink rubric as your example.

3. Work on writing out the information in your own words, using the outline.

50s & 60s Day 2015

50s & 60s Day is Wednesday, February 18th and takes place in school. The main event will be a 50s-style game show with contestants from all of the social studies classes. There will also be limbo, hula-hoop, and yo-yo contests and a sock hop.

How to dress. . .
First, look around the house and/or ask some willing family or friends to let you look in their closets. You’ll be surprised what you might find. Below are some suggestions for making a simple outfit look like the ’50s or ’60s:

· Sweater set (esp. with a strand of pearls)
· Cats-eye glasses
· Capri pants (esp. with a big man’s shirt)
· Ponytails (esp. if tied with a chiffon scarf)
· Penny loafers
· Saddle shoes (with ankle socks)
· Little white gloves and a handbag
· Pillbox hat (especially with a “Chanel” suit)
· Mary Janes (with white knee socks and a short skirt)
· Bowling shirt (over jeans rolled up)
· Letterman sweater
· Bellbottoms
· Tie-dyed anything
· Go-go boots
MEN
· Skinny ties
· Jeans rolled up
· Penny loafers
· Leather Jacket
· Sports jacket (or Letterman sweater)

History Fair 2015 Topic Ideas

Looking forward to another great year of History Fair!

Leadership & Legacy is the theme this year.  Look over the handout in class and on the Chicago History Fair link below for topic ideas.  Read about them briefly and try to pick two or three.
